Tim Maurer was inspired by a near-audible message to establish the Global Institute For Transformation (GIFT) cross-denominational ministry, to address unmet Spiritual and Material needs, here and around the world… to help affect Christian unity… to help the Church address the significant needs facing society today… and to transform our world!
What was Tim’s message? “GIFT… Everything’s a GIFT. What is the Church, but a Global Institute For Transformation. A G.I.F.T.” Having served organizations during his career in strategy, innovation and branding, Tim recognized the potential value and fit of GIFT in helping to support today’s Church and our world. After confirming alignment with Scripture and Church teachings, he launched GIFT and now serves as president, helping Daughters of Wisdom and other Religious.
GIFT has been recognized and encouraged by many Christian leaders. GIFT was endorsed by Archbishop Elden Curtiss as “sorely needed,” and encouraged by a Nazarene Church District Superintendent, Larry White. GIFT’s spiritual work has been published by the Vatican Laudato Si Action Platform; covered twice on Catholic TV; endorsed by CatholicMom.com; profiled twice by Catholic Profiles; used in the Archdiocese Of Hartford’s Youth Spectacular; and used in Nazarene church outreach.
Through GIFT, Maurer has worked closely with the Daughters of Wisdom in Malawi and others to affect impactful material solutions. Working with DoW, GIFT helped build a library; enabled training poor, illiterate women in sewing -- training which expanded to educating women on soap manufacturing; provided water filtration to avert Cholera after Cyclone Freddy disrupted and threatened many lives; and is helping grow nutrition-smart, water-smart, and climate-smart Orange Flesh Sweet Potatoes and their Edible Leaves. GIFT’s material innovations have also been used by the Missionaries of Saint Paul, in Malawi; the Father Joseph Network, in Haiti; and Father Fred’s Ecogenesis, in Philippines. Tim has also shared GIFT’s spiritual resources with these organizations to support the spiritual needs of their people.
To combat hunger here and globally and raise funds for impact, Tim created a campaign to change hearts, fund food distribution to local pantries, and fund farming of sweet potatoes and edible leaves globally. “The Great Pumpkin Food Fight… Fighting For Those Who Need Food” campaign raises awareness of the ~$800 million we spend yearly on Halloween pumpkins that mostly get thrown out, while ~800 million of our brothers and sisters go hungry worldwide, and local pantry shelves go empty. And rotting pumpkins emit methane equal to two coal power plants.
Profiled in a business book as a “Leader Innovator,” Tim was blessed by God with incredible career experiences, which he seeks to harness to bless God’s Church and His children. Tim’s strategic planning, innovations and marketing were tapped by the White House National Economic Council, the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, the US Small Business Administration, the International Franchise Association, an affiliate of the Smithsonian, leading ski areas, and top corporations.
As an example of Tim leveraging his career GIFTs, he was a leader in advancing Smart Grid-Smart Building technology in 1997, and more recently, he was deemed a “2015 Smart Grid Pioneer,” one of 50 globally, by Smart Grid Today. He’s now using his experience in business strategy, and in the integration and deployment of Internet of Things and Data Analytics, to advance smart agribusiness and other innovative solutions globally, in order to address hunger, poverty, wellbeing, climate, water crises, bioplastics, biofuels, economic development and more. God uses his GIFTs in so many JOYous ways!
Tim also served as the CEO-Convenor of the Father Joseph Network (FJN), Haiti, comprised of a microfinance company with 1000 employees; a University; a peasant’s cooperative; local economic development committees; a school; clinics; an orphanage; and a religious order, the Sisters of Saint Anthony of Fondwa. This experience has been so beneficial, too.
A Connecticut native, Tim and his family once relocated to Chicago to lead a refugee resettlement operation, and they’ve helped refugees globally. He also initiated, researched and led a U. S. National Women & Minority Business Symposium, and he’s served on Boards of FJN; World Relief Chicago, refugee resettlement; and “TRY US,” minority business advocates.
Tim and his wife, Roberta, are living again in Connecticut with four children and three grandchildren. He received a BA from Seton Hall, where he served as Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister and Editor of SHU’s
