Hildegard of Bingen
Marguerite Mullée, Ed.D.
Hildegard of Bingen (1098 – 1179) is one of the best known women of the Middle Ages. Abbess, mystic, healer, intellectual and musician, Hildegard brings a woman’s voice and the strength of the feminine to her writings and compositions. Her chants contain haunting, beautiful music as well as ecstatic poetry and visionary imagery that suggest a role for women in salvation history.
These days, we are all experiencing our lives as a kind of wandering through the desert, moving through its spareness. But there is another side to the desert. Isaiah writes that the wilderness and dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom...and rejoice with joy and singing. Hildegard's wisdom includes her concept of viriditas - the creative life-giving force for all living things. Using this as a guide, we will contemplate the fertility that can be found in barren places. We will explore, through poetry, writing, art and lectio divina, the joyful life force that still exists for us all. Please note that this workshop has been adapted to the times and there will be no indoor singing.
Cost is $60 with Lunch Included
